Details

Building Digital UK (BDUK) is developing all its plans under Project Gigabit within the UK Subsidy Control Regime, with an emphasis on making high-speed broadband available in rural areas. BDUK’s guidance on this approach can be found in the above documents.

The UK Subsidy Control Regime replaces the State aid regime which was in place prior to the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.

Under the United Kingdom/European Union Withdrawal Agreement of October 2019, all contract awards made prior to the end of the Transition Period (31 December 2020) continue to fall under the State aid regime for a period of four years and need to be managed in accordance with the rules in that period. This also applies to future procurements and awards made under the Superfast Broadband Programme.
