HMP Feltham is currently operating a limited visits schedule for family and friends. You can book your visit by telephone. There is no online booking service available.

• Thursday: 2:00pm to 3:00pm, 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Visiting times for Feltham B (18 to 21 year olds):

• Monday: 2:00pm to 3:00pm and 3:30pm to 4:30pm
• Wednesday: 2:00pm to 3:00pm and 3:30pm to 4:30pm
• Saturday: 9:00am to 10:00am, 10:30 to 11:30am, 2:00pm to 3:00pm, and 3:30pm to 4:30pm
• Sunday: 2:00pm to 3:00pm and 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Feltham has limited parking for visitors, including space for Blue Badge holders.

Entering Feltham

All visitors, aged 16 or older must prove their identity before entering the prison. Read the list of acceptable forms of ID when visiting a prison.

All visitors will need to be given a pat-down search, including children. You may also be sniffed by security dogs.

Revealing clothing is not allowed. You may be turned away if you are wearing items like vests, ripped jeans, mini skirts or short shorts. Hoodies and hooded jackets are also not allowed.

There will be no refreshments available during your visit.

There are strict controls on what you can take into Feltham. You will have to leave most of the things you have with you in a locker in the visitors centre or in your car. This includes pushchairs and car seats.

You will be told the rules by an officer at the start of your visit. If you break the rules, your visit could be cancelled and you could be banned from visiting again.

Visiting facilities

Feltham has a visitors centre run by Spurgeons Children’s Charity. Visitors are offered a warm welcome, information and support. There will be no refeshments available during your visit. The children’s play area is currently not available.

The visiting centre also includes lockers for storing personal property during your visit. They take £1 coins.

Family days

There are currently no family days being run.

You may not be able to speak with someone at Feltham during their first few days. This is because it can take time to approve who they can be in touch with.

Phone calls

Young people in Feltham have access to phones throughout their units and can make calls in the early evenings and during free periods. Every prisoner is given £4 credit for telephone calls when they first arrive.

A person in Feltham can call anyone on their list of friends and family. This list is checked by security.

You can also exchange voicemails using the Prison Voicemail service.

Officers may listen to phone calls as a way of preventing crime and helping keep people safe.

Email

You can send emails to someone in Feltham using the Email a Prisoner service.

You might also be able to attach photos and receive replies, depending on the rules at Feltham.

Letters

Include the person’s name and prison number on the envelope.

If you do not know their prison number, contact Feltham.

All post apart from legal letters will be opened and checked by officers.

Send money and gifts

You can use the free and fast online service to send money to someone in prison.

You can no longer send money by bank transfer, cheque, postal order or send cash by post.

If you cannot use the online service, you may be able to apply for an exemption - for example if you:

• are unable to use a computer, a smart phone or the internet
• do not have a debit card

This will allow you to send money by post.

Gifts and parcels (property)

People in Feltham have a list of approved items that can be given to them by family and friends.

Prisoners must first apply for permission to receive items. Feltham then sends the family member or friend an approved stamp to fix to their parcel.

Family and friends can then hand in the parcel before visits on the following days:

• Feltham A (15 to 18 year olds): Monday, Wednesday and Sunday
• Feltham B (18 to 21 year olds): Monday, Wednesday and Saturday (afternoon visits only)

Items should be handed in to the property desk in the visitors centre which opens 30 minutes before visiting times.

You must have a visit booked for the time you hand anything in, otherwise it won’t be accepted.

Items are not normally accepted by post. However, a prisoner who does not get visits can apply for permission for a family member or friend to send items in. These parcels must also be marked with an approved stamp. Feltham takes no responsibility for items sent in the post.

Make sure to include the prisoners name and prison number on parcels. All items will be opened and inspected by an officer.

Friends and families of prisoners are permitted to send books directly to their loved ones, or can order books from approved retailers, which can source and send the books on to prisoners.

Life at Feltham

Every person at Feltham has a right to feel safe. The staff at Feltham are responsible for their safeguarding and welfare at all times.

Arrival and first night

When a young person first arrives at Feltham, they will be able to contact a family member by phone. This could be quite late in the evening, depending on the time they arrive.

They will spend their first night in the induction unit where they will be provided with a hot meal, shower and a pack of essential items including food and toiletries.

They will get to speak to someone who will explain the rules, check how they’re feeling and ask about any immediate health and wellbeing needs.

Induction

Each person who arrives at Feltham gets an induction that lasts about a week. They will meet professionals who will help them with:

• health and wellbeing, including mental and sexual health
• any substance misuse issues, including drugs and alcohol
• personal development in custody and on release, including skills, education and training
• other support (sometimes called ‘interventions’), such as managing difficult emotions

Everyone also finds out about the rules, fire safety, and how things like calls and visits work.

Accommodation

Young people and young adults stay in separate sections. These are known as Feltham A for 15 to 18 year olds and Feltham B for 18 to 21 year olds.

Young people stay in one of 6 units with space for up to 30 people. Almost all young people get their own room.

Young adults stay in one of 7 units that each have space for up to 56 people. They might get their own room or share with one other young adult.

The units all have phones, showers, laundry facilities and a social area with table tennis tables and other games. Rooms all include a sink and toilet.

Behaviour

A young person’s behaviour is assessed regularly including how they’ve treated others and whether they’ve attended education.

With good behaviour, young people can earn rewards and privileges including extra visits, family days, more access to the gym, film nights and breakfast club.

Free time

Young people take part in sports and fitness, skills workshops and other activities in their free time. They can also spend time in the library.

Faith services

A large number of volunteers work with the chaplaincy at Feltham to give all young people access to religious services and multi-faith rooms, whatever their faith.

Education

The education service is open 5 days a week and is provided by two organisations called Prospects and Novus.

Subjects include English, maths, IT, languages, barbering, catering and a range of other vocational qualifications.

Earning money

Young people in Feltham can earn money by doing work such as cleaning, catering, laundry, and kitchen duties.

Spending money

Prisoners can spend their money on canteen items like sweets, chocolate, drinks, toiletries, stamps and stationery. They can also order items from catalogues available on their units which include things like CD players, radios and clothes.
