The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Rt Hon George Eustice MP, has issued a direction to the Environment Agency.

The direction is to temporarily relax permitting conditions for coal-fired power stations in England during the winter period 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023. This is to address energy security issues if they arise, whilst aiming to limit unnecessary pollution.
