Methodology
This guidance will help local authorities and schools understand how the mainstream schools additional grant (MSAG) is calculated for 2023 to 2024 and how this will be paid to maintained schools and academies.

You can view the indicative local-authority level allocations for the mainstream schools additional grant alongside the DSG allocations.

We have published the second MSAG school level allocations for new and growing schools that have opened in the past 7 years and are still adding year groups in the 2023 to 2024 academic year, and the first MSAG allocation for schools that opened in September 2023.

We have published the second ‘Mainstream schools additional grant (MSAG) school level allocations second payment 2023 to 2024’ spreadsheet. We have also updated the ‘Methodology’ guidance to advise that new and growing schools will receive the second payment of MSAG allocations by March 2024.
