Detail of outcome

The Department of Health and Social Care consulted on proposals to increase the member contribution thresholds in the NHS Pension Scheme for 2023 to 2024 in line with the recently announced Agenda for Change pay award for England. The purpose of this was to ensure that NHS Pension Scheme members do not move into a higher contribution tier as a result of receiving the award.

This document summarises the feedback received at consultation and sets out the government’s intention to proceed to implement regulation changes.

Consultation description

The proposals in this consultation mean that members of the NHS Pension Scheme are less likely to pay higher contribution rates due to pay rises that are in line with the Agenda for Change (AfC) pay award in England.

These changes happen annually to make sure that the AfC pay award for England is reflected in the legislation for the NHS Pension Scheme.
