Tensions have increased along Brazil’s borders with Venezuela and contactGuyana following the recent steps taken by Venezuela with respect to the Essequibo region of Guyana. There is increased military activity in the area. The security situation may deteriorate. Drug traffickers and illegal armed groups are active throughout the border area and there is a risk of kidnapping.
