Work out the number of quarters when Inheritance Tax is charged on a trust for certain chargeable events

Calculate the number of quarters when Inheritance Tax is due when assets have not been held in a trust for a full 10-year period.

Inheritance Tax is due on a trust when there are certain chargeable events. This tax may be reduced when an asset has not been held in a trust for a full 10-year period.

Use this calculator to work out the quarters (3-month periods) where Inheritance Tax may be due for the following chargeable events:

  • a 10 year anniversary charge on a trust where assets have not been relevant property for the full 10 years
  • distribution of capital when assets are transferred out of the trust before the first 10 year anniversary
  • distribution of capital when assets are transferred out of the trust after the first 10 year anniversary

This calculator cannot be used to work out charges on an age 18 to 25 trust. Find out how to work out charges on an age 18 to 25 trust.
