Low risk waste positions: tyres, rubber and plastic

The Environment Agency has provided these low risk waste positions (LRWPs) for waste operations that it considers may be suitable for an exemption.

Details

If the Environment Agency provides a LRWP for an activity, you can carry it out without an environmental permit for a waste operation provided that you meet all the conditions.

The Environment Agency may review its LRWPs. It may decide the activity is no longer suitable for a LRWP or that the conditions need changing. You must regularly check that the LRWP you are benefiting from is still in place.

LRWPs for tyres, rubber and plastic that have been withdrawn

WeThe following LRWPs have been replaced by the regulatory position statement ‘Using whole waste tyres: RPS 301’:

  • Using waste tyres for fendering systems at quaysides: LRWP 53
  • Using waste tyres for planters: LRWP 56
  • Using waste tyres in escape ladders in water storage reservoirs: LRWP 77
  • Using whole waste tyres in construction: LRWP 79

‘Storing and cutting waste rubber conveyor belts for reuse: RPS 305’ replaced ‘Storing and cutting waste rubber conveyor belts for reuse: LRWP 2’.

‘Storing and treating artificial turf: RPS 279’ replaced ‘Storing and treating redundant athletics tracks, rubber shock pads and waste AstroTurf for reuse: LRWP 35’35’.

If withyou ‘Storingoperated andunder treatinga artificialLRWP turf:that has been replaced, you must check if you can follow the RPS 279’.instead.

  1. Withdrawn LRWP 53, LRWP 56, LRWP 77 and LRWP 79, as they've been replaced by the regulatory position statement 'Using whole waste tyres: RPS 301'.

  2. Removed 'Storing and cutting waste rubber conveyor belts for reuse: LRWP 2' as replaced with regulatory position statement 'Storing and cutting waste rubber conveyor belts for reuse: RPS 305'.

  3. Removed 'Storing and treating redundant athletics tracks, rubber shock pads and waste AstroTurf for reuse: LRWP 35' as we have replaced it with 'Storing and treating artificial turf: RPS 279.'

  4. We have withdrawn Storing and treating redundant athletics tracks, rubber shock pads and waste AstroTurf for reuse: LRWP 35 and replaced it with Storing and treating artificial turf: RPS 279.

  5. We have added a new low risk waste position - 'Using whole waste tyres in construction: LRWP 79'. This low risk waste position replaces 'Using whole waste tyres in construction: RPS 161'.

  6. We have published a new low risk waste (LRWP) position: 'Using waste tyres in escape ladders in water storage reservoirs: LRWP 77' This LRWP replaces our regulatory position statement (RPS), 'Using waste tyres in escape ladders in water storage reservoirs: RPS 139'. This has now been withdrawn.

  7. We have added a new low risk waste position - Sorting waste tyres under a T8 waste exemption: LRWP 72.
