Getting employment support when leaving the armed forces

Find out how the Career Transition Partnership can help you find a job if you have left or are due to leave the armed forces.

About the Career Transition Partnership

The Career Transition Partnership (CTP) is a specialist resettlement programme designed to help people leaving the armed forces find civilian employment. The support on offer usually depends on how long you’ve served.

If you’ve served for over 6 years or have been medically discharged

If you’ve served for over 6 years

You’re entitled to access the Core Resettlement Programme (CRP).

YouThe Core canResettlement useProgramme is theavailable CRP from 2 years priorbefore todischarge yourand discharge.2 Youyears willafter bedischarge. It entitledentitles you to up to 35 days of graduated resettlement time (GRT)prior to conductdischarge. resettlementThis activitiesis priortime allocated to yourtake discharge.part in resettlement activities. The number of days you’re entitled to depends on yourhow lengthlong you’ve served, up to a maximum of service.35 days for those that have served 16 years or more.

If you’ve been medically discharged

If you’ve been medically discharged, you’re overentitled 50to yearsaccess ofthe ageCore andResettlement haveProgramme servedno formatter morehow thanlong 30you’ve years,served.

If further support is required, you’re also entitled to beginaccess the CTP Assist programme.

If your medical condition means you cannot access resettlement earlier.support immediately, you can defer support for up to 2 years after discharge and, in extreme cases, resettlement provision may be transferred to your spouse.

If you’ve served for 4 to 6 years

You’re entitled to access the Employment Support Programme (ESP).

TheYou’re ESPnot isentitled availableto graduated resettlement time. However, you may be able to personnelattend whotraining haveevents servedon fora betweenstandby 4basis, andwhich 6you’ll years.need to pay for yourself.

YouYou’ll canalso have access theto ESPa comprehensive database of job vacancies through CTP RightJob, frommany 2of yearswhich priorare available exclusively to yourservice dischargeleavers. andEmployment foradvisers upare toon 2hand yearsto post-discharge.assist.

If you’ve served for less than 4 years

You’re entitled to access CTP Future Horizons,Horizons, which is open to early service leavers across all services.

CTPYou Futureshould Horizonsbe isregistered availablewith tothe personnelprogramme whoautomatically dischargeon beforebeing completingdischarged. 4If yearsyou’re ofunable service.

If you’ve been medically discharged and have been deemed to face significant barriers to employment, CTPyou Assistwill isbe availableentitled to supportaccess personnelto onthe recovery duties (PRDCTP) andAssist other service leavers who face significant additional challenges with the transition to a civilian career.programme.
