On 18 September 2024, Minister Anneliese Dodds of the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office together with Minister Bahlil Lahadalia of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Strategic Critical Mineral Partnership.
The MoU aims to facilitate policy dialogues and foster the exchange of technical knowledge, skills, and expertise. It also seeks to support the development of a robust policy framework that promotes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices within Indonesia’s critical mineral sector. Through this collaboration, the UK and Indonesia aim to advance sustainable critical mineral mining practices and drive responsible growth in the industry, which supports the global energy transition and sustainable technologies.
