Details

This guidance provides a benchmark of good practice on how to proactively identify young people at risk of being not in education, employment or training (NEET) using risk factors and data. It also clarifies each partner’s role and how to collaborate effectively on this shared priority.

The guidance supports a preventative approach to keeping young people in education and training, and to supporting their transition into further learning and onward into fulfilling work.

It can be used alongside the statutory guidance on the participation of young people in education, employment and training, which sets out what local authorities must do to comply with the law.

It is for:

  • local authority staff who are responsible for delivering the statutory duties to ensure the participation of young people up to the age of 18
  • school and college leaders, and staff with responsibility for careers education and supporting students’ transition into post-16 education and training
