In July 2023, GBN issued a Contract Notice setting out an intention to enter into a two Stage contract for design, development and construction contract with those successful bidders.
Procurement Progress To-Date

In July 2023, interested parties were required to respond to a selection questionnaire. This concluded in August 2023.

In October 2023, GBN down-selected six technologies, who would be eligible to bid into the next phase of the procurement.

In March 2024, these six vendors were invited to submit initial tenders. GBN received five bids by the July 2024 submission deadline.

In September 2024, GBN concluded the initial tender phase of the technology selection process. The down-selected companies are:

After these negotiations are received,concluded, the companies will be invited to submit Final Tenders, which GBN will evaluatethen these,evaluate. withA final decisionsdecision on which technologies to select towill be taken in the spring. GBN will provide further updates in due course.
The companies remaining in this process are GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy International LLC, Holtec Britain Ltd, Rolls Royce SMR Ltd, and Westinghouse Electric Company UK Ltd.
Gwen Parry-Jones, CEO of Great British Nuclear said: ‘Our SMR selection is on track to provide Britain with new nuclear power in the next decade and beyond. We look forward to completing this complex and groundbreaking procurement over the coming months.’
