When to pay
HMRC will send you a noticeNotice to fileFile with a deadline to send your return and pay what you owe.
You can extend the deadline by 7 days if you pay by:
- Direct Debit
- Faster Payments
- Bacs (Bankers Automated Clearing System)
- CHAPS (Clearing House Automated Payment System)
If you’re an overseas insurer and use an agent, they must complete and submit the return and pay HMRC by the deadline.

PayHow byto set up a Direct Debit
To set up a Direct Debit, you can print out and post the the Direct Debit Instruction form (EEITT15).
You should allow 10 working days for HMRC to set up your Direct Debit. If it will not be set up in time, you’ll need to use another payment method.
You’ll need your 15-digit reference number. This is on the registration certificate, Notice to File and other correspondence HMRC sends you.
There could be a delay to your payment if you use the wrong reference number.
Once HMRC has set up your Direct Debit, we’ll automatically collect the amount shown on your return.
