This data protection impact assessment (DPIA) concerns “right to rent”.

All landlords in England have a responsibility to carry out right to rent checks. This is done by landlords conducting simple checks before they rent a property, to make sure the individual is not disqualified from accessing the private rented sector.

The Home Office has developed the online right to rent checking service to support landlords in conducting secure right to rent checks and make it easier for individuals to demonstrate their right to rent. The service allows landlords/agents to check that current/prospective tenants have the right to rent.
