Details
The Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefits technical guidance (DB1) is intended for use by professional and voluntary advisers, and by members of the public who want more information. It explains who is entitled to, how to claim and how DWP works out:
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Exceptionally Severe Disablement Allowance
- Reduced Earnings Allowance
- Retirement Allowance
- Unemployability Supplement
- additional payment for people whose employer has gone out of business
Appendix 1 has a list of diseases covered by the Industrial Injuries Scheme. These are called ‘prescribed diseases’.

Diffuse mesothelioma – legislation updated to Legislation (67) – SS (II) (PD) Regs 1985 reg 20A(1)-(2)

References to two of the diseases listed in paragraph 11.1 Pneumoconiosis etc (Workers’ Compensation) Act 1979 have been amended due to legislative changes. These diseases have now been amended from ‘diffuse pleural thickening’ to ‘unilateral or bilateral diffuse pleural thickening’, and from ‘primary carcinoma of the lung if accompanied by asbestosis or diffuse pleural thickening’ to ‘asbestos-related primary carcinoma of the lung’.

Under paragraph 5.4 ‘Making a benefit claim for a prescribed disease’, fast track cases has been updated to “Claims for prescribed disease C4, C22b, C24a, D3, D8, D8a, D10, and D11 are all treated as fast track cases. These cases are given priority at all times.”

Updated paragraph 7.6 ‘Effects on other benefits’ relating to Exceptionally Severe Disablement Allowance.
