Forthcoming changes to the grant
The Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions has been extended for a final year until 31 March 2027.
From 1 April 2026, the maximum grant rate will reduce from £2,500 to £2,000 per chargepoint socket.
Education institutions that submit applications before 1 April 2026 remain eligible for the current rate and will receive £2,500 per socket for vouchers redeemed before 30 September 2026.

The government reserves the right to end or change this grant scheme.
If the grant ends or the grant amount changes, the government will:

Who can apply
This grant is for state-funded schools and other state-funded education institutionsinstitutions.
It tois installavailable electricin vehicleEngland, chargepointWales, socketsScotland atand theirNorthern site(s). Ireland. If your institution is in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, it is not eligible.
InstallationsTo usuallyapply costfor aroundthe £1,500grant you must have:
- an existing or future need for charging an electric vehicle
- designated off-street parking facilities that are clearly associated with your premises - the parking may be used by customers, guests, visitors, staff or others
- the authority to
£2,500,applydependingfor the Workplace Charging Scheme onthebehalfareaof your organisation
Independent schools can apply for funding through the Workplace Charging Scheme and typethe ofEV installation.infrastructure grant for staff and fleets.
What the grant covers
You can get 75% off the cost to buy and install chargepoints up to a maximum of:

£2,500 per socket

40 sockets across all sites including any applications made previously via the Workplace Charging Scheme
You willcan needmake multiple claims up to confirmyour thatallocation youof meet40 allsockets.
Academy trusts can apply for up to the criteriamaximum inof 40 sockets for each institution within the applicationacademy form.trust.
Information you need to complete the form
- information about the
rulessize of your institution – numbers of staff and pupils - your institution or SEED reference number
- how many chargepoints you want to
makeinstall - how
suremany sites youarewanteligibleto install them at – if your institution has more than one site - whether you plan to
applyopen up the chargepoints for public use - the
grant.name and number of your installer, as registered with OZEV - check with your installer - contact details for 2 people - email address must match the email domain of the relevant institution
Academy trusts must provide contact details for a person at the trust and contact details for a person at the education institution they are applying on behalf of.
WhenBefore you havebegin readyou thisshould information,get youan authorised installer to carry out a site survey to make sure the electrical capacity of the site can completesupport the number of sockets you want to install.
Apply for the grant
Start your application now. You must fill in the whole form.
Successful applicants will be emailed a voucher code.
Until you receive a unique voucher code, there is no guarantee that you will receive the grant.
Find your SEED or reference number
England and Wales
If your institution is registered at Get Information about Schools, you can find the wholeestablishment’s form.unique reference number (URN) in establishment details.
Northern Ireland
If your institution is registered with the Department of Education, you docan not,find your applicationinstitution mayreference benumber unsuccessful.by searching your institution name on the site.
Scotland
AllSchools declarationsin Scotland are listed on Parent Zone. You will need to search for the name of your school to find the SEED number.
What happens next
If your application is successful, you will be sent a voucher code within 5 working days. You must give your installer your voucher code, which is valid for 180 days. The installation must be completed bywithin thethis contacttime.
The personinstaller namedwill inclaim the form.grant on your behalf, and deduct it from your invoice.
You canmust makeuse multiplean claimsauthorised upchargepoint installer to install eligible commercial chargepoints.
If you want to open your allocationchargepoints ofto 40the sockets.public and charge for usage, you will need to ensure you comply with the Public Chargepoint Regulations 2023 and associated guidance.
Audit
TheBy Officeapplying for Zerothis grant, you Emissionsagree Vehiclesto facilitate and assist in (audits and to the associated conditions as set out.
OZEV) reserveswill select some installations to be audited. OZEV, or a third-party organisation, will check grant data, statements and records held by you and the installer. There may be an on-site visit that will require access to the chargepoint(s).
Audits may take place before or after a claim is paid. You and your installer must provide the information requested. If this is not provided, we may withhold or reclaim payment of the grant and any other grants payable.
We reserve the right to seek further information or documentary evidence from relevant parties in support of any individual claim.
