Machinery safety legislation: call for evidence
Read the full outcome
Detail of outcome
The Call for Evidence received 48 responses from manufacturers and distributors, UK Approved Bodies, trade associations, professional bodies, and enforcement authorities. Verbal feedback was also gathered at 10 events attended by over 190 stakeholders across the UK and internationally. There was strong support for the continued recognition of CE marking and alignment of approach. Accordingly, the Government intends to lay legislation to continue CE recognition for machinery products in Great Britain and update the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 as they apply in Great Britain to introduce similar measures to the EU.
Original call for evidence
Call for evidence description
EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 applies in the EU from January 2027, bringing in changes intended to clarify and future-proof the legislation in this area, including the creation of common specifications, a move to paperless documentation, and obligations on all actors in the supply chain. The Government is considering whether to introduce these measures across the UK. We are seeking views on the issues associated with the continued recognition of new EU product requirements for machinery, and the implementation of the same approach.
We are looking to hear from all interested parties, including, but not limited to:
- manufacturers
- authorised representatives
- importers/distributors
- trade associations
- conformity assessment bodies
- consumers
- workers
- market surveillance and enforcement authorities
- charities
