Connect the classroom is a government-funded programme to improve internet speed in schools. This is done by upgrading wifi access points and network switches.
Eligible schools will be contacted directly by the Department for Education (DfE) and receive funding if they fall below our wifi connectivity standards
These standards include:
using the latest wireless network standard approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance
having a fully functional signal from a wireless network throughout the school or college buildings and externally, where required
having a solution that can centrally manage the wireless network
installing security features to stop unauthorised access
What’s involved
We’ll provide funding for a supplier to carry out IT improvement work in schools. Schools will be responsible for procuring their own supplier and their work must meet our specifications.
Funding
£25£325 million of funding is available in total for the 2025 to 20262030 financial yearyears following the £215 million investment between 2021 and 2025.
Additional selection criteria will be announced this summer.
Schools currently receiving targeted intervention through the regional improvement for standards and excellence (RISE) programme will be eligible for connect the classroom.
