Epidemic intelligence activities to detect and assess potential emerging infectious disease threats to the UK are undertaken by the Emerging Infections and Zoonoses (EIZ) team within the National Infection Service of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

These activities are undertaken on a daily basis and involve systematic review of formal and informal reports from multiple sources to identify and gather information about outbreaks and incidents of new and emerging infectious diseases, occurring anywhere in the world.
