The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) oversees building control bodies (local authorities and registered building control approvers) and registered building inspectors.

The codes and standards are sometimes updated, therefore use the versions on this page and do not rely on previously printed copies.

  1. To update that the regulatory authority is the Building Safety Regulator and not the Health and Safety Executive. To remove the reference to the Health and Safety Act 1974.

  2. Information added to the code of conduct about permissible work for class 3G RBIs.

  3. Information added to BICoF and code of conduct about permissible work for class 2 and 3G registered building inspectors.

  4. Update made to annex 5.2 of the building inspector code of conduct. The update clarifies that class 2C and 2F building inspectors can carry out work that changes the internal layout of residential unit.

  5. New information has been added to the code of conduct detailing permissible work for class 2 building inspectors. This has been reflected in the BICoF document.

  6. The code of conduct has been updated so that it states that class 3H includes all buildings, not just higher-risk buildings. The wording is now consistent with the registered building inspector competency framework.
