The Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU), part of the Home Office, collects information provided by licence applicants and establishments.
This information is used to:
- assess applications
- monitor compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986
- improve its services
Information provided under this framework is treated as confidential. It is protected from disclosure under section 24 of the act.
We may publish non-technical summaries of project licences and other data in a way that does not identify individuals. This may be on GOV.UK, or used to respond to parliamentary questions and freedom of information requests where lawful.
We will only share identifiable information if required by law. For example, if there is a court order or to prevent fraud or other crime.
