Apply for an Environment Agency base mooring on the River Thames
Application process for base moorings at lock sites on the River Thames.
Applies to England
Apply online
Use this form to apply for a base mooring at an Environment Agency lock on the River Thames.
A printable version of the form is available on request, please email RiverThames@environment-agency.gov.uk.
Mooring charges
Lock base moorings and dry storage are invoiced annually in advance. Mooring charges are based on the size of your boat and the length of your mooring (6 or 12 months).
When we receive your application, we will calculate the charges and contact you for payment.
All vessels on Environment Agency waterways must be registered. For more information on how to register your boat please visit River Thames: boat registration and application forms.
Waiting list
Moorings are not guaranteed, and are allocated as they become available.
If we do not have a mooring available, we will add your details to our waiting list for 12 months. However, moorings are very popular and vacancies rarely become available.
There are various private marinas along the River Thames that you may wish to moor your boat at while you are waiting for a lock mooring.
The Environment Agency does not offer residential moorings at any of the locks that it operates on the River Thames. For advice on residential moorings, you should contact your local planning authority.
You can find more information on Environment Agency base moorings on our River Thames: locks and facilities for boaters guidance page.
