This statement provides over-arching guidance which aims to set out the CMA’s policy and approach to transparency and disclosure at a high level. In brief, this Statement provides an overview of:

the CMA’s approach to transparency when involved in cases and projects

the CMA’s approach to gathering information from and disclosing information to parties
-
the CMA’s approach when considering whether to disclose information to other UK public authorities

the CMA’s approach when cooperating with overseas public authorities
Changes to the guidance
July 2026
In July 2026, the CMA updated this guidance to :

consolidate and streamline the CMA’s general guidance on transparency and disclosure into a single document
-
ensure accuracy, improve readability and reflect current CMA practice, including the CMA’s 4Ps approach (pace, predictability, proportionality and process)

In December 2024, the CMA updated this guidance to reflect developments in CMA practice, as well as legislative developments since 2014, and in particular the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA24).
