Join the Skills England Expert Network

Skills England works with employers, training providers, unions, regional partners and regulators through its Expert Network.

Members volunteer their time and knowledge to help inform Skills England’s work.

We aim to use members’ time effectively and keep processes as simple and efficient as possible.

This helps us draw on a broad range of knowledge and experience when making decisions.

How the network works

We bring together time-limited groups from the Expert Network to carry out specific tasks. We keep members informed through webinars, newsletters and surveys.

Occupational groups

Occupational groups develop or update occupational standards and assessment plans.

Each group has a clear purpose so that expertise is used where it is most needed.

Where a full development or revision is not required, we use a proportionate, lighter-touch process.

This allows changes to be made quickly while maintaining quality.

Insight groups

Insight groups provide evidence and expert views on sector, regional and cross-sector issues, helping guide broader decision-making.

Skills challenges do not always fit within a single occupation or sector. Insight groups bring together employers and other experts to help identify and address broader skills needs at regional and national level.

Who can join

To become a member you must be able to demonstrate expertise in any of the following:

• an occupation
• a sector
• technical education
• regional skills needs

Conflicts of interest

We are committed to managing conflicts of interest to maintain transparency.

Members must declare any actual or potential conflicts as soon as they become aware that their personal interests could influence, or be perceived to influence, their duties to Skills England.

You must update your declaration if an existing interest becomes more relevant. Where a conflict of interest exists, we may limit or restrict your involvement in certain activities.
