Accessibility statement for the GOV.UK Wallet sandbox

This accessibility statement applies to the GOV.UK Wallet sandbox. The GOV.UK Wallet sandbox lets Digital Verification Service (DVS) Providers create a test digital driving licence and save it to the GOV.UK Wallet test app.

The GOV.UK Wallet sandbox is run by the Government Digital Service (GDS). We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. For example, that means you should be able to:

• change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
• zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of it using a keyboard or speech recognition software
• listen to most of it using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible the GOV.UK Wallet sandbox is

You might have difficulty using the GOV.UK Wallet sandbox if you’re using a screen reader because: 

• headings are not read out in a logical order when you create a test digital driving licence
• the different options to add a test digital driving licence to your test GOV.UK Wallet app are not announced 

If you’re using voice control, you might have difficulty revoking a test digital driving licence because you cannot easily select the field you need to fill in to complete this task.

If you’re using an external keyboard and make a mistake, for example not filling in a field in a form, the focus will not always move to the error.

GDS is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The GOV.UK Wallet sandbox is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-accessible content listed below. 

Non-accessible content

The service does not fully meet the following WCAG 2.2 criteria:

• 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A) - headings and options on a page are not always announced when using a screen reader
• 2.5.3 Label in Name (Level A) - some fields are not labelled in a way that means they can be selected using voice control
• 3.3.1 Error Identification - page titles are not updated when a mistake is made, which means it’s not always clear that something has gone wrong

How we prepared this accessibility statement

The accessibility of the GOV.UK Wallet sandbox was last tested in September 2026. Testing was carried out by accessibility experts in GDS. They ran manual testing with device accessibility features (page zoom, keyboard only, voice control and the VoiceOver screenreader) to check a user’s ability to create, issue, test and revoke a test digital driving licence.
