Exercise Synergy delivers 100% EPA success rate
Exercise Synergy has helped CNC apprentices prepare for EPA success, with every participant completing the specialist development programme achieving a pass.
Every apprentice who has taken part in Exercise Synergy has successfully completed their End-Point Assessment (EPA), marking a successful first year for the Civil Nuclear Constabulary’s (CNC) specialist development programme.
Introduced in September 2025 by the Professional Development Unit (PDU), Exercise Synergy was designed to help apprentices test the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed during their two-year apprenticeship while identifying areas for further improvement ahead of their final assessment.
Over the past year, every apprentice who has completed the exercise has gone on to achieve a successful EPA outcome.
The latest exercise brought together 16 apprentices from across the constabulary for a series of classroom and practical activities, including simulated incidents, crime scene management, professional discussions and statement-writing exercises.
The scenarios were designed to challenge participants and give them the opportunity to apply their policing skills in realistic situations. Throughout the exercise, PDU staff assessed performance and provided individual feedback to support further development before apprentices undertook their EPA.
Sergeant Will Roberts, PDU Lead, said: “Exercise Synergy has been constantly adapting to the needs of our apprentices. With each EPA we learn more about what assessors are looking for, and that learning is fed back into the planning of the exercise so we can continue to refine and improve it.
“The practical scenarios allow apprentices to apply their skills in realistic situations, helping us identify strengths, highlight areas for development and provide targeted support ahead of their final assessment.”
