Update: air strikes against Daesh

The RAF are continuing to take the fight to Daesh in Iraq and Syria.

The RoyalIraqi Airforces Forcerecently Typhoonidentified FGR4sa weresignificant taskednumber toof conductDaesh strikesfighters againstusing terroristscave whocomplexes hadsouth-west beenof Erbil. The caves identified occupyingwere assessed to be particularly difficult targets and two dispersedRAF encampmentsTyphoon onFGR4s thewere bankstherefore oftasked theto Thartharconduct River,strikes westin support of ground forces from the cityhighly-capable ofIraqi Bayji.Counter-Terrorism Service.

AOn precedingWednesday check10 March they conducted surveillance of the area revealedto confirm that there were no signs of any civilians who might be placed at riskrisk, andbefore conducting the RAFfirst aircraftattack proceededusing Storm Shadow missiles, which had been selected as the most appropriate weapon for the task. Following the mission, the Typhoon’s weapons were confirmed to conducthave struck their targets precisely.

Further surveillance efforts confirmed two additional locations in the strikessame area were also occupied by Daesh. Two Typhoons conducted precision attacks on the extremists at both locations on Thursday 11 March, using six Paveway IV guided bombs.
