Travelling from and returning to the UK
Check what you must do to travel abroad and return to England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

The FCDO advises against all travel to Ukraine. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is ongoing, with attacks against a number of major cities. Russian military strikes have taken place in Ukraine within 20km of the Polish border. There is a real risk to life. We advise British nationals to leave Ukraine immediately if you judge it is safe to do so. Ukraine’s airspace is closed. If you are a close family member of a British national normally living in Ukraine and intend to apply for a visa under the Ukrainian Family Scheme, read the guidance on visas for close family members of British nationals normally living in Ukraine. From 2 March 2022, Poland extended a law limiting access until 30 June 2022 to areas close to the Belarusian border (areas within approximately 3 kilometres of the border) in parts of Podlaskie and Lubelskie Voivodeships. See Safety and Security for more information.
