The purpose of this guidance is to:

It is primarily aimed at businesses implementing the regulations and authorities enforcing them.

The restriction of products by location came into force on 1 October 2022. The restriction of products by volume price will come into force on 1 October 2023.

  1. Updated guidance to provide additional points of clarification for the following: to note that the locations restrictions have now come into force; for specialist retailers; for individuals engaged on zero-hour contracts; additional examples of products which are excluded from the restrictions; clarification for key exclusions such as ‘infant formula’; for minimally processed and nutritious foods; NPM scores for packaged products of multiple items; online advertising restrictions.

  3. Updated the guidance on volume price restrictions. Restriction of HFSS products by location will come into force on 1 October 2022 and by volume price on 1 October 2023. There is a transition period for promotions on packaging until 2024.
