However, there is a high incidence of crimes. You should maintain personal security awareness throughout Belize, and exercise particular caution in the Southside area of Belize City due to gang violence and gun crime. On 28 July, a State of Emergency was declared for parts of the Southside of Belize City in response to recent gang-related shootings. See Crime
