Monitor your school attendance

Schools,Sharing daily attendance data with the Department for Education (DfE) means schools, their trust and local authority can access the Monitor your school attendance tool.tool, Thiswhich is available on the View your education data (VYED) service.

You will need to request access from someone at your organisation to log in for the first time. You will receive an email when you have been given access. You can then log in to the VYED service to use the Monitor your school attendance tool.

This attendance data will:

  • give schools, local authorities and academy trusts access to more up-to-date pupil-level attendance data
  • allow mainstream schools to compare their attendance with other schools
  • help you meet the new expectations set out in working together to improve school attendance

Schools should use the data to help improve attendance by:

  • identifying trends and pupils who need support
  • sharing attendance data with their board, governing body and local authority

Pupil attendance in schools data from national and local authorities is published on Explore Education Statistics every 2 weeks.

How to get access

To access yourthe school attendance data:

  1. Log in to VYED using your DfE Sign-in. credentials.
  2. Go to ‘services’ and ‘add services to my account’.account’
  3. Select your organisation.
  4. Request access to ‘VYED’ then the sub-service ‘Monitor‘school yourattendance school attendance.data’

This sends an email request to your school’s approver. You should receive an email within 5 days from dfe.signin@education.gov.uk confirming approval.

IfOnce thereyou arehave norequested approversaccess, foran youremail organisation, your request will be sent to your organisation’s approver.

Once they have approved the DfErequest, Sign-inyou teamwill toreceive bean approved.email confirming this.

Problems getting access

To resolve problems getting access in your DfE sign-insign account, you can:

  • check the status of a request
  • find your organisation’sorganisations approver

If there are no approvers for your organisation, your request will be sent to the DfE Sign-in team to be approved. Once they have approved the request, you will receive an email confirming this. It can take up to 5 working days.

If you are an approver

To access the tool for yourself, log in to DfE Sign-in and add the service ‘view your education data’ and ‘Monitor‘school yourattendance school attendance’.data’.

To give someone else access, select the approve button in the email request from dfe.signin@education.gov.uk and follow the steps.
