Use the Manage your Alcohol Duty online service to submit monthly Alcohol Duty returns and payments.
You must be an approved producer of alcoholic products to enrol. If you’re not already an approved producer, find out how to get approval from HMRC.
When you should enrol
As soon as you get your alcoholic products producer approval (APPA) ID, you should enrol onto the Manage your Alcohol Duty online service.
As an approved alcoholic products producer, you must submit monthly returns and payments using the service. You’ll need to submit a nil return even if you have not produced any alcohol in a month.
What you’ll need
You’ll need your 15-digit APPA ID. The APPA ID is made up of 5 letters and 10 numbers (for example, XMADP0123459789).
You will also need one of the following:
your business postcode
your Corporation Tax Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
your Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
If you were already approved to produce alcoholic products before 1 February 2025 we’ll automatically migrate your separate registrations or licenses across to a single APPA. Your APPA ID will be in the online service letter we sent you in February 2025 to confirm this.
If the online service letter has not arrived by 25 February 2025, contact us by email at: nru.alcohol@hmrc.gov.uk.
This email should include your:
business name
registered business address and postcode
Unique Taxpayer Reference
If you applied for approval to produce alcoholic products after 1 February 2025, you can find your APPA ID in the approval letter that we sent to you.
If you’ve signed in to your business tax account and cannot enrol onto the Manage your Alcohol Duty service, use the link ‘is this page not working properly?’ for support.
