Italy

Warnings and insurance

This travel advice page also covers the Vatican City.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) provides advice about known risks of travel to help British nationals make informed decisions. Find out more about FCDO travel advice.

If FCDO advises against travel or is aware of an incident that raises the risk for British nationals, information will be provided here.

Flooding

Severe flooding is currently affecting the region of Emilia-Romagna, including Bologna, Forli-Cesena and Ravenna. It is advised to stay away from riverbanks and green areas affected by flooding and stagnant water. The rail service between Bologna and Rimini, is partly affected and many minor roads in the region remain closed. Check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities. The website of the Civil Protection Department has further information.

General Strike

On 26 May, a general strike lasting 24 hours will cause disruption to services across Italy. Transport, excluding air traffic, will be affected in all major cities with the exception of Rome and Emilia-Romagna. Long distance trains will continue to operate, however local trains may be cancelled or delayed. The strike will also affect taxis and ferries.
