Anyone in England or Wales can use this service to contact the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).

Ask BSR a question

You can ask BSR about:

  • the responsibilities of registered building control approvers
  • the responsibilities of registered building inspectors
  • BSR services, for example, Register as a building inspector or Register as a building control approver

For buildings in England, you can also use this service to ask BSR a question about: about:

  • residents’ safety and involvement 
  • the responsibilities of designers, builders,builders building control bodies and others in the construction industry industry
  • the responsibilities of local authority building control
  • guidance and building safety law 
  • statutory committees 
  • staging building control applications for complex developments, for example, multi-building projects
  • a BSR service,services, for example, Register or manage a high-rise residential building,building or Submit a mandatory occurrence notice or Register as a building inspector

    Complaints you can makealso to BSR

     You can complain to BSR about:  about:

    • issues in athe high-rise residential building that could lead to fire spreading  
    • issues in athe high-rise residential building that could lead to part or all of the building collapsing 
    • issues with fire safety or structural integrity in athe high-rise residential building that is being designed, built or renovated 
    • peopleaccountable andpersons organisations we regulate, for example building inspectors and peoplethe principal accountable for safety in a building  person

    WhenComplaints notabout tothe complain building you live in

    If you are a resident in England and want to complain about the building you live in, first raise your issue with a person accountable for building safety. For example, the building’s landlord or management company. Use this service if they have not dealt with your issue. issue.

    What you cannot use this service for

    BSR cannot respond to questions or give advice about:

    • compliance with the building regulations
    • building control applications in England, before an application has started
    • building control applications in Wales
    • local authority building control in Wales
    • high-rise residential buildings in Wales

    Contact the Welsh Government (on GOV.WALES) about local authorities, building control applications or high-rise residential buildings in Wales.

    Do not use this service to report concerns about anti-social behaviour or the general cleanliness of a building. Report these issues to your landlord or management company. company.

    Before you start  

    To ask a question, BSR will ask you for: 

    • your contact details, or the contact details of someone acting for you, so BSR knows who to respond to   
    • details of your question 

    To complain, BSR will ask you for:  

    • the building address, if the complaint is about a building  
    • your contact details, or the contact details of someone acting for you, so BSR knows who to respond to  
    • the name of the person or organisation you have previously complained to, if relevant 
    • details of your complaint, for example, the date you became aware of the problem, who you’ve already reported it to and when, if relevant 
    • any supporting information, such as photographs or documents you want to upload

    If you do not want to give BSR your name and contact details, you can ask someone you trust to ask a question or make a complaint for you.
