Guidance

Pay into your Customs Declaration Service cash account

How to pay into or top up your cash account if you're making a frontier declaration.

When to pay

There must be enough funds in the cash account before the goods arrive in the Customs Declaration Service.

You must check your account balances have been updated before making declarations.

It is recommended that payments into the cash account are made:

  • 3 working days before the expected goods arrival date if paying by Bacs (Bankers Automated Clearing System)
  • 2 working days if paying by any other method

If the funds are needed on a weekend or bank holiday, make sure your payment reaches HMRC by the end of the previous working day.

If there are not enough funds in the cash account before the goods arrive, this will cause delays to the declaration service.

What you need

You need your payment reference number. This reference will always be made up of CDSC followed by your 11 digit cash account number (for example, CDSC56895642158).

You can find this in your customs financial accounts.

If you use an incorrect reference number:

  • there will be a delay of 2 working days in the payment being allocated correctly

  • your goods clearance will be delayed
