Security situation in Sudan

We are closely monitoring the situation in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan where there are ongoing military clashes. There is now fighting in various locations across Sudan. Khartoum International Airport is currently closed.

Evacuation

The UK Government is currently running evacuation flights to help British nationals to leave Sudan. A renewed 72-hour ceasefire in Sudan is in place and is due to end at midnight Sudan time on 30 April, at which point violence could escalate.

We will cease operations at Wadi Saeedna airfield on 29 April 2023. There will be no more flights from the airfield after this time. If you plan to leave Sudan by this route, please travel to the British Evacuation Centre at Wadi Saeedna airfield by 1200 (midday) Sudan time tomorrowtoday (29 April) to be processed for the last flight.

Wadi Saeedna airfield is located at GPS: 15° 48 10 N, 32° 29 32 E; WhatThreeWords:what3words: refusals.atom.herds. Please travel to this location as soon as possible to be processed for the flight.

We can only evacuate British passport holders and immediate family members (spouse/partner and children under 18 years old) who are either non-visa nationals or those with existing UK entry clearance. This is defined as anyone with a valid UK visa / visa vignette in their passport, or a UK Biometric Residence permit.

Seats will be allocated on the basis of vulnerability, starting with family groups with children, the elderly or people with documented medical conditions.

Travelling to Egypt from Sudan

There are reports of large numbers of people attempting to leave Sudan via the border crossing with Egypt with long queues and difficult conditions. There are two2 main land border crossings between Egypt and Sudan, at Qustul and Argeen. The nearest town in Sudan to the crossings is Wadi Halfa (30km from border). There is almost no infrastructure at these border crossings. Individuals are currently waiting up to several days to transit the border, with very limited access to food and water. Travelling to Chad, Eritrea, Central Africa Republic or Ethiopia from Sudan

Sudan’s borders with Chad and Eritrea are currently closed.

FCDO advises against all travel to Central African Republic and within 20km of the Ethiopian side of the border with Sudan.
