Security situation in Sudan

We are closely monitoring the situation in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan where there are ongoing military clashes. There is now fighting in various locations across Sudan. Khartoum International Airport is currently closed.

A renewed 72-hour ceasefire in Sudan is in place and is due to end at midnight Sudan time on 303 April,May, at which point violence could escalate. We have already seen signs of escalating violence.

Evacuation from Khartoum

The UK Government is no longer running evacuation flights from Wadi Saeedna airfield. The last evacuation flight departed the airfield at 2200 Sudan time on 29 April.

Evacuation from Port Sudan

The UK Government iswill trackingprovide regular updates on departure options from Port Sudan and will provide regular updates on these pages. On 1 May, the UK Government will exceptionally offer an evacuation flight to help British nationals to leave Port Sudan. If you wish to leave Sudan on this flight please travel to the British Evacuation Handling Centre at the Coral Hotel on 1 May before 1200 Sudan time to allow for processing.

We can only evacuate British passport holders and immediate family members (spouse/partner and children under 18 years old) who are either non-visa nationals or those with existing UK entry clearance. This is defined as anyone with a valid UK visa / visa vignette in their passport, or a UK Biometric Residence permit.

Travelling to Saudi Arabia from Port Sudan

Un-scheduled chartered ships are operating from Port Sudan to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Visas will be issued to British Nationals in Saudi Arabia on arrival and will remain valid for a short period of time.

Travelling to Egypt from Sudan

There are reports of large numbers of people attempting to leave Sudan via the border crossing with Egypt with long queues and difficult conditions. There are 2 main land border crossings between Egypt and Sudan, at Qustul and Argeen. The nearest town in Sudan to the crossings is Wadi Halfa (30km from border). There is almost no infrastructure at these border crossings. Individuals are currently waiting up to several days to transit the border, with very limited access to food and water. Travelling to Chad, Eritrea, Central Africa Republic or Ethiopia from Sudan

Sudan’s borders with Chad and Eritrea are currently closed.

FCDO advises against all travel to Central African Republic and within 20km of the Ethiopian side of the border with Sudan.

If you have recently left Sudan, and develop fever or flu-like symptoms, you should seek medical attention straight away and tell them that you have recently left a malarial risk area.
