This guidance lists the:

  • bus companies that are taking part in the £2 bus fare cap scheme
  • bus routes that are included in the £2 fare cap
  • bus routes that are not included in the £2 fare cap

1 July update. This page has been updated to show the bus operators and routes included in the scheme until 31 October. Minor changes may be made as we receive final details from operators.

The £2 bus fare cap will run until 31 October 2023.

Rural Mobility Fund operators offering the £2 fare cap

Some local authorities and their operations in DfT’s Rural Mobility Fund offer £2 single fares as part of the DfT’s fare cap. The participating operators and the regions they cover are:

Carousel/Pick me up: Buckinghamshire (rural areas around High Wycombe – Booker, Downley and Wooburn Green)

Digi Go: Essex (central Essex and South Braintree)

Fox Connect: Leicestershire (rural area between Leicester and Hinckley)

HertsLynx: Hertfordshire (rural area around Buntingford)

IndigoPlus: Warwickshire (rural area west of Warwick and Kenilworth)

Mole Valley Connect: Surrey (Mole Valley – rural communities around Dorking)

Bus routes not included in the fare cap

Participation in the bus fare cap scheme is voluntary, and some bus companies have chosen not to take part. If your local company is not included in the list, they may have other types of ticket which are suitable for your needs.

Some types of routes are not covered by this scheme so they are not included, for example, coach services, school only services or airport services.

Fares are already capped in the following areas, so they are not included in this scheme:

Changes to bus fare cap scheme from November 2023

From 1 November 2023, the bus fare cap will change to £2.50 for single tickets. This cap will last until 30 November 2024.
